Women, historically and in evolutionary terms, have best served their genetic survival interests by cooperating with the conqueror (if the conqueror is strong enough) and his ruling ideology. They had, and have, almost zero chance of fighting the established rulers, so they usually cooperate. There have been some extraordinary exceptions, of course.
