For transparency, here’s the entire Nostrich trending algorithm:

Score = 3Z + 2Rp + 3Q + 2Re + Ra + Bs

where: Z = unique zappers, Rp = reposts, Q = quotes, Re = replies, Ra = reactions, Bs = sats bonus

The sats bonus is deliberately small, keeping its weight minimal while still allowing value to count as a meaningful signal.

1+ sats = +1
10+ = +2
100+ = +3
500+ = +4
1k+ = +5
5k+ = +6
10k+ = +7

It caps at 7 points. A million sats scores the same as 10,000, and the bonus stays at zero until at least two different people have zapped. Money can register, but it can’t outvote humans.

⚡ Zap amounts only count from validated receipts. Signatures are checked and bolt11 is decoded. Forged receipts add nothing.

👥 Engagement is counted by distinct people, rebuilt from relay events rather than trusting index claims. One person replying five times still counts as one.

🚪 Replies, quotes, and reposts only count if the author passes our discovery gate: name, picture, NIP-05 are counted as better signals and at least 10 notes + 10 replies of history required. Freshly minted spam farmers contribute zero.

🔁 Quotes count as 1.5× reposts. Adding your own thoughts around a note is 1.5× as meaningful as simply reposting it.

📈 Bursts don’t immediately dominate longer charts. A note needs an hour of staying power to enter 4h trending and four hours to enter 24h. Sudden bursts stay in the 1h chart, where they belong before they graduate.

👤 One note per author per chart, popular accounts cannot pollute the trending table.

🌍 Same trending list for everyone. No personalization.

⏳ Rebuilt every 5 minutes from public relay data.
