Bitcoin doesn't fail if other chains provide utility
we've always had different value transfer networks that people have used for their own reasons and convenience
The network effect first off. Money is fundamentally a network of value communications. That means a single network must prevail, and multiple networks are a sign of damage, for example government regulation, and altcoin confusions. The second problem is the premise of decentralized money; it only works if it maintains savings value over time, long periods of time. Thats due the the nature of money value coming from savings. No savings = no value. If there is a changing series of networks, then that premise fails, and no decentralized network will hold value. Third, defense. Bitcoin's non counterfeitability comes from non copy ability. If you could fork bitcoin successfully you defacto dilute the supply and default it. Altcoins are tantamount to forks; if they succeed they by definition they lose. Fourth, satoshis algorithm depends on a single global chain for pow to work. We already saw monero be 51%d, becaue it has a moronic asic resistant design and because it just isn't the predominant sound money network. There can only be one; and I thought it would be more obvious to people who understood satoshis invention.
