My grandma is nearing the end of her life and is having massive anxiety about death. How she’s going to die, the pain, what’s going to happen, being away from her life and family, being alone.
She described her state of existence today as being in a constant state of panic. Incredibly sad and hard to hear.
I’ve been hanging out with her a lot lately and notice that our conversations make her feel much better. I listen to her. I ask her questions and give my input. We talk philosophy and life. And after an hour or two her shallow breathing loosens up, she becomes more relaxed and jovial.
I know her being alone is not good for her but I can’t figure out how to get her to agree to live in a more social setting. I am certain it would improve her mental and physical condition materially. But she absolutely refuses. So frustrating.
