I was talking to my teenager about multimodal vector space token embedding and used the analogy of Hermann Hesse's _Glass Bead Game_, in which all of art and mathematics is unified into an abstract set of rules in theory played with colored beads.
He hadn't heard of the book, which of course I immediately got for him. Reading and digesting Hesse are treasured memories for me.
And while ruminating those memories, I browsed Hesse's wikipedia page and learned something
