I understand completely the thinking you are doing. However, from an outside perspective it sounds like self-deprecating thinking.
Question some assumptions you may have:
WHY can you not make your 30 years of experience count?
HOW do you know they would cost too much?
Only trying to help and again, I completely understand as I was never able to solve this problem either with my work, but may be a worth exercise to try and sit with it.
