It took me a long time to figure out, but I think the MAGA crowd doesn't really know that much about the EU, Europe in general, or European history.

They keep saying stuff that doesn't make any sense, as they don't bother actually doing their homework. Everyone advising them is as confidently clueless as they are. The less they know, the more loudly and proudly they proclaim their ignorance. It's a clear inverse.

Or, as we say in German:

Their European history is told as though the actual Europeans are just NPCs in some American shooter game. It's so weird.

You know, we continue to exist, even if they aren't currently thinking about saving or conquering us. Someone should tell them that.
