I think there are circumstances when empathy is a "sin".

for example when normal people excuse powerful people for their dreadful actions, because "they must have some good reasons to do such horrible things" or "they are rich and powerful they don't need to do bad things, so they are not bad"

there's a sin of empathy when normal people think that poweful people act with the moral compass of an average person.

and for centuries powerful people have exploited "Christian Compassion"
