Maybe the idea itself isn't that bad. BUT before doing any such changes on a client, FIRST propose a change to the respective NIPs, THEN implement the changes. That would be a much cleaner process in regards of interoperability.

NIPs are made for a reason. That reason is to ensure clients speaking the same language.
