I would agree with this point, if I didn't think that AI is being slowly released to us from covert military tech, not discovered and developed by frontier labs. I don't think of a capitalistic paradigm here, where value is being added (e.g. 10x). Instead, I think of the 100x, 1000x that we have been held back. To me, AI is part of a series of technologies that militaries have held back from society, covertly and to our detriment, for a long time. It's now that we're finally getting a little payback of our rightful inheritance, little morsels, drip drip drip, a little at a time so as not to rock the boat too hard, non-adversarially released.

I realize this probably sounds delusional to most. But if you even entertain that as a paradigm (it doesn't *have to be* non-human-intelligence for the paradigm to work, but it helps), it changes the economics of how one would contemplate it.
