The rat doesn't ask permission.

Banksy taught us where to find the survivors — in the drains, the subway walls, the spaces nobody bothers to lock. Not the ones who asked nicely. The ones who found the seams and slipped through.

Seventeen years ago somebody slipped a nine-page document into a cryptography mailing list. No press conference. No permission. Just a mailing list nobody was watching and an idea that could not be unlearned.

They wrote that cash lets you move money without a bank. That the cost of being left out is a payment system that works fine until it decides you are the problem.

They wrote that this was the rat's side of the wall.

Every rat eventually gets a banknote thrown at it. Crumpled, half-torn, printed with the face of the man who owns the wall. The whole trick was never about the cheese. It was about holding something the wall cannot take back.

Seventeen years of being called a toy, a bubble, a rat.

Still standing upright.
