Maybe local concensus is all that matters, build with the people you want to build with. If a group with a lot of influence comes in and flips every rule on nostr, but are interoperable with each other and have most of the users, there's really nothing anything anyone can do, refardless of we all think. Might be that exact reasoning for how protocols die - focusing on mandating things to not change with global rules
