The most important thing that must be taken from them, is devotion.

Once people stop looking up to them and stop wanting what they have the vast majority of their wealth's value simply evaporates on the spot.

The physical resources-- land, water, infrastructure-- they may be able to hold for a while, but as it gets harder to find mercenaries desperate enough for their treats to do dirty work for them, it's only a matter of time. That's a direct, physical struggle.

The whole thing is held together by religion. Capitalism is a death cult, people marching up to sacrifice everything of worth in a damned volcano to make some line go up.

Break the religion. Have something better to believe in. Then everything changes.
