Don't trust strangers. Attorneys are statism... they have no moral duty towards you or your family.
Give it to a close friend (a "bro" that you can trust) or a close family member. Or simply hide it somewhere and tell your wife and kids the location.
Optical disks are going extinct, so you may not be able to access the data in the future. The fact that you mentioned them already gives me a hint of your age group.
USB-A ports are also going extinct. All phones, laptops, and electronics nowadays only have USB-C.
Also, you can't expect your wife or kids to know how to install VeraCrypt and decrypt your USB drive by themselves and especially not in a secure way (from an air-gapped device).
The only viable solution is a GrapheneOS phone.
