If there was a training exercise ongoing with hundreds of people then I could easily see a sudden fast moving fire causing a very large number of casualties. Also given Edmonton hospital ERs are in a constant state of over capacity an influx of critical burn patients would be a huge issue.
That said, details are scarce right now so we’ll have to wait and hear what’s reported later today. No matter what the cause this is a massive tragedy.
