Why should we feel more vulnerable to the emotions that we all share than we do in ridicule? What left us comfortable with foolishness, but in fear of exposing the raw and tender nerves of hurt? Were we more able to feel than those we trusted? Could they have learned had they let anyone but themselves set the tone? Why should we hide what the broken had mishandled, from the trustworthy who will need it?
