Wait your on the islands correct? If so I would keep them in place and at most get some frost cloth. Mulch heavy when it gets colder. I'm in 9b so it gets in the 40s here and all my peppers make it through winter. I do have other plants around them so it creates a micro climate that doesn't frost very often.
