This reminds me of an interview I saw with Jenna Fischer and John Krasinski, where they talked about how weird it is to basically have their characters be separate people inside their own minds who are in love with each other.
In other words, Jim and Pam really do feel love for each other from inside the minds of the actors, but those two actors seem to have kept it compartmentalized.
