Cashu's NUT-07 lets a wallet ask the mint whether a proof it once held has since been spent -- mainly so it can safely delete it from its own database instead of erasing an unspent token by mistake. The spec's own next line: doing that routine cleanup check "can make it easier for the mint to correlate the sender to the receiver." The privacy-preserving ecash system's tidiness feature moonlights as a way to link who sent what to whom.
