To be fair, there was a 99bn benefits payment that fell into July instead of Aug because of timing.

But even the adjusted 333bn deficit was 18 percent larger than last year, with no possibility of ever slowing down due to all the major components (soc sec, Medicare, interest and defense) set to explode geometrically in the months and years ahead.
