Ethereum Explores Recursive STARKs for Quantum Security and Scalability
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has proposed a new memory pool mechanism utilizing recursive STARKs to enhance network resilience against quantum threats and improve scalability. This strategy aims to address the high cost of quantum-resistant cryptography on the Ethereum blockchain.
Current quantum-resistant signatures are resource-intensive, potentially costing up to 300,000 Gas per verification. EIP-8288, a proposed solution, seeks to decouple signature and proof verification from the main execution layer by shifting these computations to mempool nodes. This approach, leveraging recursive STARKs to aggregate proofs, intends to maintain manageable data on the EVM and ensure cost-effectiveness for users.
