The part where you're wrong is that the currency DID change.
Satoshi didn't intend mining to be pooled. Bitcoin was "supposed" to be home mined. Pooling arguably broke Bitcoin's entire security model.
We also 1) activated taproot, 2) refused to fix any of the problems caused by taproot. Both with minimal debate and swift deplatforming of any dissenters.
