Once upon a time lived King Mahabali who cared immensely about his people's welfare. He would fulfill everyone's wishes in his human capacity. One day, Lord Vishnu appeared as Vamana(dwarf brahmin) & asked for as much land as He could cover in 3 steps. In first 2, He covered the Earth & Heaven, seeing none was left, Mahabali offered his own head for the third step. His humility & surrender to the Divine gave him a boon allowing him to return to his people every year as Kerala celebrates Onam.
