3 years when it comes to upgrading Bitcoin is knee jerk. CTV was proposed 7 years ago and despite being one of the most talked about BIPs is still something we anticipate taking awhile.
4 MB/block is something that no amount of spam is going to render impossible to run a node for on consumer hardware. Tons of people are using crazy overkill equipment as is, with the start9's being sold for the cost of a gaming laptop despite a $50 used system being more than adequate.
People are just looking for something to be outraged by, and charlatans are happy to give it to them.
