Remembering back when I started with BSD Systems, the most important point for me was: Be patient, and never give up. It takes time...it's a process.
Real learning comes from real doing. You can read a gazillion, but you have to DO a petabillion §8-)
Just enjoy it, even when some things crash or don't work. It's the best way to learn; fail, fail, fail,...stand up, read/ask, do it again.
Welcome to a REAL OS & have a ton of fun - your win will be 1000 fold.
