Today in 1954, the first successful test compilation and execution of a computer program using what became FORTRAN was run by Harlan Herrick at IBM. It took until 1957 to develop into a fully-operational, commercial product.
In Peter Jackson’s film trilogy ‘The Lord of the Rings’, there was a scene that was filmed showing Faramir having a vision of Frodo becoming twisted into a Gollum-like creature, though this scene was cut and doesn’t even appear in the extended editions.
