Swedish police have relaunched a national anti-scam campaign featuring actors Suzanne Reuter, Lennart Jähkel and Christina Schollin, plus journalist Claes Elfsberg. Running through October 11, it urges people to overcome the habit of being polite and to hang up or shut the door when a caller or visitor creates doubt. Police say criminals use social engineering, trust and urgency, with telephone scams particularly common against people over 60.
Swedish cybercriminals reportedly made 5.7 billion SEK in 2025. Common schemes begin with text messages impersonating a bank or government body, followed by a call to a number controlled by the fraudsters; fake police officers may also collect valuables. Authorities warn that stolen money can support organized fraud and violent networks. New rules effective August 1 require providers to block suspected fraudulent communications.
