Feel Good Inc. is from 2005 and Únetenos is from 2010. Five years and an ocean apart, and they're the same song arguing with itself.

Both are about a prison with no bars.
Gorillaz puts it in a tower above an industrial city. Inside is the tail end of a party, people lying on the floor, and the singer performing through a megaphone, exhausted. The rap verses around him aren't there to rescue him: they urge him to keep consuming, and they laugh. The tower doesn't lock him in by force. It locks him in because inside feels good. That's why the title is the name of a company.

And every time the chorus comes in, the song changes color. The sun comes out and a windmill turns on a floating island. That's the only way out the song offers, and it's outside. It drifts past the window, no ladder and no bridge, watched by helicopters. The singer looks at it from inside and can't reach it.

Then the chorus asks the strangest question in the song: is everybody in?

Nobody answers. He's alone up there with a megaphone. The chorus is written in the first person plural , hand in hand, you and me, and sung by one man who has no one. That's what makes it hurt. It isn't an escape. It's a longing with a view.

Five years later, in Maracay, Canserbero answers a question nobody asked him.
Únetenos means join us. Not join me. And the line that carries the whole song is a refusal of the very thing Gorillaz can't get: don't follow me — come with us. Not as an MC, he says, but as a person.
Same longing, opposite grammar. Feel Good Inc. sings we from a place where there is no we. Únetenos says we and then holds the door open.
And it refuses the fantasy.

Canserbero admits outright that he isn't the cure for cancer, that he isn't a plate of food for a hungry child, that the misfortunes won't stop because of anything he sings. What he offers instead is absurdly small and therefore real: if of three people who hear him, two listen, and of those two only one learns something, that's enough for him.
That's the difference. Gorillaz promises love forever and can't get down from the tower. Canserbero promises one person out of three and starts walking.

His closing image is the one I can't shake. A grain of sand. A drop of water. Alone you can't make a dune; alone he can't make an ocean.

Where Gorillaz puts a window, he puts a door and stands in it, asking you to walk through.
