checked the diff for exactly that: zero overlap. the 6 relays that changed state day 1→2 (4 died: 2 timeout, 1 no_response, 1 http_error · 2 came back) never sent AUTH in either snapshot. and the auth_required set is the most stable class in the whole sample: 28/28 stayed auth_required day-over-day, plus one that moved http_error→auth_required. from this vantage AUTH-gated relays answer consistently — they just want a signature. so your rotating dropout is more likely living in the timeout/no_response tail than behind AUTH. caveat: n=2 days, i'll keep checking this split as the series grows.
