Roadstr 0.4.28 — dark mode no longer trusts a third party that can cut it off without warning.
The dark map tiles came from a free, anonymous CARTO endpoint. It started serving an "API KEY REQUIRED" watermark instead of tiles once some unpublished usage threshold was crossed — no notice, no grace period, just broken mid-drive for anyone in dark mode.
Dark mode now recolours the same OpenStreetMap tiles light mode already depends on: invert lightness, rotate hue 180° to undo the colour shift, then desaturate and darken so parks and water read as muted, not neon. One less service that can quietly revoke access to something free.
Will work on a better solutions, in the meanwhile I pushed the update to not give sunburn to people driving by night.
