The camera upgrades are expensive so they wait until they are fully depreciated before replacing them. Live sports needs a lot of cameras. I remember this issue with the transition from 720p to 1080p.
The good news is that getting a TV > 4K is pretty much pointless. Your eyes can’t tell the difference past 4K.
