Profit in healthcare is GOOD...as long as the incentives are aligned.
We want our members to have real reassurance that we'll be here for the long term. That kind of trust only comes from running a sustainable business model.
For-profit → has to keep proving its value or lose the customer. That forces investment in better outcomes, faster service, lower costs. Innovation is survival.
Nonprofit → insulated. Tax-exempt status, guaranteed funding streams, and captive markets mean the incentive to improve is weaker. Status quo is survival.
