Maybe you’re right but hear me out. If you throw it on second down and it’s incomplete, you have two more plays because of the timeout. But if you run the ball and don’t score, you have 1 more play because you’re gonna waste a lot of time getting back to the line. Since it wastes too much time you’ll have to burn your last timeout there. You have two downs left but practically only one play. Remember spiking isn’t an option anymore.
But if it was incomplete they could have ran the ball on 3rd down and called a timeout if they still didn’t score and ran the ball again on 4th down. I think this was their logic and that means the pass call was supposed to be very conservative. But what Wilson did was risky. I wonder if Wilson knew this was the only shot he had to win the game and get the mvp. Because it would’ve been lynch otherwise.
