I imagine this also explains the loneliness epidemic as well. People reported that during the fall of Rome as well.
No one wants to put effort into anything anymore. They all feel cheated because the pay doesn't keep up with inflation. Although they probably don't understand any of the mechanics, its just a shift of personality. Everyone is in your way and a burden. Rather than a fellow human.
