Stay small. Stay classy.

It's similar in the beer business. I used to work for a beer/wine distributor. We have a lot of great local breweries in Montana. Some work with the local distributor which has grown quite large and their beers are in grocery stores across the state. Some have grown large enough to go national like Big Sky Brewing.

There's one in my county that refuses to go with a distributor. Bias Brewing runs their own local sales and distribution. They have at least one tap handle in almost every bar in the county, which is a credit to their sales rep, considering they have to compete with the distributors sales reps to get tap handles. They have good saturation locally but no interest in growing beyond that.

It's possible to get your wine represented in a lot of local restaurants but you have to put in the foot work.
