My normal advice to young men: If your not exposing yourself to someone looking you in the eye and rejecting you, you’re not really looking for a job. I get it, most jobs are now filled through online portals. However, it is too easy to “apply” to hundreds of jobs online be “rejected” by some algorithm and come to the conclusion the job market is the problem, not you. Get out, knock on doors, call up friends who do hiring. Do a mock interview with someone who doesn’t care about your feelings, ask leaders for a minute of their time. Get out and feel life again so you can learn to make real time adjustments. When someone says, “I have a friend that works at so and so company, I can give you their number”, make the call! Don’t wimp out with some excuse of, “Oh I’ve already applied there and they’re not hiring”. The call is the real application. You can be like your peers and just flood a bunch of online applications, but I don’t want to hear complaints about no jobs until you’ve also done the eyeball to eyeball handshake stuff.
Your family is lucky to have you helping Mike!
