As my brief holiday in Sicily comes to an end, I drew some conclusions.
I used to live here some 16 years ago, many things have changed (for the better and for the worse), but as many did not change (for the better and for the worse).

The wonderful things of living here are still here: the raw, genuine, rural life, in full contact with nature, the simplicity and cordiality of the people, the language, the amazing food and traditions, rooted in an ancient population.

The ugly aspects are also still here: lack of jobs, total neglect of the preservation of communal spaces (= trash on the side of public roads LITERALLY EVERYWHERE), chaos, corruption etc.

I do not want to come across as the usual southern guy who went up north in search of riches and became elitist. I am not, not even in the slightest. I root for my (former) region and hope it can succeed, and people like SatsOil (nprofile…xxy7) are contributing to its development.
But I also see the same negative factors holding it back.

Anyways, since I like to put my money where my mouth is, I spent an exaggerate amount of money throughout all the small businesses I came across.

Come visit Sicily, it's fucking worth it ☀️
