There are several barriers to organizing s real general strike, but people miss the biggest one. It's not that there aren't points of leverage where we could shut things down, because there are many. The big problem in planning a general strike is that you don't just shut things down, but you have to organize replacements for vital services that are under the control of the striking workers. That takes far more coordination and active participation than simply having a large number of people not go to work for a day.
