The problem is that it's focusing on the wrong problem. Complex machines (like voting tabulators) are untrustworthy and can be compromised, no matter where they're sourced. Defenses have to focus on ways to have high integrity elections in *spite* of that, not on applying flag-waving band-aids that don't address the fundamental weaknesses of the design.
