Two birds with one stone.
Europe has many problems. An aging population is one of them. And how do you help an aging population? You increase productivity. And how do you increase productivity? Well, in my biased opinion, robotics is a good answer.
Europe also has a second problem. Its automotive industry. The largest industry in Europe faces a lot of competition from other parts of the world, China being the most prominent.
Automotive and robotics share many aspects. Sure, robotics leans a bit more on programming, but producing a robot and producing a car are pretty similar.
Robotics could be the stone that hits both birds.
Now, I don't want to pretend that this is an original thought. Some European car manufacturers are currently trying to transition (BMW with idealworks).
I guess I just want to highlight this dynamic and increase awareness of it, and, again in my biased opinion, governments may want to help with this transition. I do not really agree with subsidies, but maybe some tax cuts, or at least help with the trade barriers between members of the EU, would be a good start.
