Don't forget that Broadcom also canceled all their partnerships. Everyone expected the price increases (though not the scope) but many of us in the business didn't expect to lose the ability to deliver VMware based projects. Had they just raised the price they wouldn't have an entire consulting and service industry loudly championing their competitors. There would just be grumbling about the price and tacit acceptance.
