One thing that gives me peace is knowing how mentally ill everyone is. In the past, you suspected it, but still had that lingering doubt: “what if this is a ‘me’ problem? What if it’s all just cope?” But now you know for sure they are really and truly ill, just epistemically derelict, worse even than you had imagined. And knowing that you can really understand, deep in your bones, “it’s not me, it’s them,” and there’s a lot of freedom in that.
