Good question. The relay itself does not verify the payment. It only stores signed #Nostr events.

Blogstr's Article Agent fetches the official NIP-57 Zap receipt from the relays and independently verifies the signature, buyer, article, amount, and payment destination. Only then does it publish a buyer-specific, NIP-44-encrypted Access Grant back to multiple relays.

The reader client does not need to present a wallet proof to unlock the article. It simply finds, verifies, and decrypts the Access Grant with the same Nostr account, even on another device. A payment preimage can be checked locally to avoid asking someone to pay twice while the official receipt is still arriving, but that alone never unlocks the content.

And yes, I completely agree: paid articles are one of the clearest value-for-value use cases, but the receipt and key handoff has never felt simple enough. That is exactly the part I am trying to make disappear for the reader: pay the author directly, then the article opens automatically.
does the auto release verify the payment on the relay side or does the reader client have to present the proof? paid articles are the one value for value piece nobody has made simple yet.
