MEMPOOL.SPACE ACCELERATOR USED TO SPEED UP 3,400 BTC LIQUID RETURN
The transaction returning 3,400 BTC to the Liquid Federation was prioritized by 82.7% of network hashrate and confirmed by Foundry in the next block.
The return transaction was RBF-enabled, meaning the sender could have bumped the fee for a few thousand sats. Instead, someone paid for mempool.space’s accelerator, which can speed up a transaction without requiring the sender’s signature.
It makes sense to use the accelerator when 3,400 BTC is on the line and the recipient wants the transaction confirmed.
The remaining question is what happens to the roughly 600 BTC (15% of the stolen funds) still held by the purported white-hat hacker.
