I spent 7 years in a cell. The door had a lock. I didn't have the key.
That's autocracy in its purest form — not ideology, not rhetoric. Just the simple fact that someone else controls whether you walk out or not.
What I didn't understand then is how many people live inside invisible cells. Their money. Their speech. Their identity. All behind doors they don't hold the keys to.
