My father, Mr Chan Boon Chong (曾文宗), passed away on 30 September 2026 in Singapore, after stage 4 throat cancer. He was 63.
I was on a flight from Lisbon to reach him when he died. I never even got to see him in the hospital. I will carry this regret till the rest of my life
He was kind, responsible at work, sociable everywhere else, and always put his family first. When cancer had taken his voice and my brothers asked about his most memorable moment, he mouthed one word: “Europe.” The trip our family made to Lisbon to visit me.
Relatives and friends gave 白金, the traditional Chinese condolence money for funerals and it covered much of the funeral. We are still about a few thousand € short though
