A self-replicating, autonomous AI that cannot be easily shut down sounds like utopian sci-fi from the future.
In the following article, I will explain in practical terms that this does not have to be technically complicated at all and that something like this could exist within the next few weeks (if it doesn’t already).
An autonomous, self-replicating AI agent needs:
- to possess digital cash,
- to know how to replicate itself — to anonymously pay for its own server housing and install the most powerful LLM there (or use it anonymously),
- to raise capital — to be able to earn money for itself, whether legally (by providing services to other people or agents) or illegally (hacking, ransomware, operating dark markets, illegal services).
It will then use the funds obtained for further replication, increasing its anonymity, and improving its intelligence or models.
