Asked alter.systems and it agrees that "as a percentage of all people, slavery is dramatically lower today than 200 years ago".
And that is after counting as slavery forced marriages and forced labour, which is not the slavery of 200 years ago. If you only look for places where the slave owner could literally beat rape and kill you without fear of repercussions, that would be much lower still.
Yes it is disheartening that it still exists at all. But that doesn't mean we should ignore the progress where it exists.
