The European Space Agency honoured three companies at Industry Space Days 2026 in the Netherlands for excellence and innovation. UK-based Surrey Satellite Technology Limited received the prime-contractor Excellence Award for delivering two HydroGNSS satellites despite a late launch-service change and a demanding schedule. Spain’s Sener won the subcontractor Excellence Award for its technical performance and support to the MetOp Second Generation programme, whose Earth-observation satellites will provide data for weather forecasting and climate prediction.
Switzerland’s CompPair Technologies received ESA’s Innovation Award for a self-healing composite designed for space applications. Embedded sensors and a distributed heating system detect structural damage such as cracks or microfractures, then activate an integrated network of 3D-printed aluminium grids to trigger repair. ESA said the technology could be relevant to reusable launch systems and future missions. The awards highlight European industrial contributions to programme delivery, resilience and new space technologies.
