Toyosa, Toyota’s Bolivian distributor, has added Bitcoin as a payment option for Toyota vehicle purchases. The company unveiled the service at Expocruz 2026 in Santa Cruz on September 18, allowing customers to pay in BTC alongside bolivianos, U.S. dollars and USDT. Towerbank provides transaction processing and digital-asset support, while BitGo Bank & Trust supplies the institutional wallet infrastructure, security and transaction traceability.
The rollout expands a USDT payment system launched by Toyosa in 2025. Bolivia enabled regulated financial institutions to process virtual-asset transactions in 2024, but Bitcoin is not legal tender and businesses are not required to accept it. Toyosa and BitGo have not disclosed transaction volumes, Bitcoin-specific fees, confirmation requirements, exchange-rate procedures, or whether Toyosa keeps or converts the BTC received. The company has also not identified a first completed Bitcoin vehicle sale.
